Does the dentist put you to sleep when you extract your wisdom teeth?
- Sometimes. Depends on how difficult your wisdom teeth look to take out. Are they impacted? Are they horizontal? Is it all 4 of them? Are they infected? Are you nervous? Of course you will get local anesthesia. Whether or not they give you IV sedation, oral sedation, nitrous oxide, or any of the combination of those all depends on many factors. Some wisdom teeth are no more difficult than any other tooth and come out easily. Others may take longer depending on their position, how much bone is surrounding them, whether they're upper or lower, how their roots look fused together or wide apart, how close the roots are to the nerve in your jaw, how wide you can or can not open, how well you cooperate, etc. Ask your dentist the specific questions and they will be able to give you a better idea of what to expect. Hope this helps, good luck!
- Novacaine. The bottom of your jaw is going to open. wide, and drop like a zombie or Van Gogh's "Scream". And will continue dripping blood and saliva or whatnot that leaves you with zero control over your body Specifically, the Jaw part. But I am dead serious about the gaping mouth part
- you have a few options. if it is an easy wisdom tooth extraction it can be done under local anesthesia. Which is just a shot of lidocaine that will numb your teeth and gums. If you are nervous about it or it is a complicated extraction, you have a few options. 1. nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. this will ease your anxiety and has a mild gesic affect. 2. oral sedation. they will give you halcion which is a short acting benxodiazopine. the same cl of drugs as and valium. this will provide a hypnotic effect. it will help you not remember alot of what happened. you will feel like you took a short nap, but you will still be awake and will remember a little about what happened. 3. iv sedation. here they will put an iv in your arm and give you a tail of 2 or 3 drugs. these will help with pain and make you not remember what happened. 4. general sedation. this is used very rarely. it requires going to the hospital and being intubated, tube that will keep you breathing in case you stop. generally this is done through the mouth but since the dentist will be working in your mouth they can intubate via your nose. Like i said this is used rarely because it is overkill and requires alot more money
