Why is the dentist not putting my daughter to sleep to pull her tooth?
- Putting her to sleep for a problem, seems a bit drastic jeez. she's not a dog! Only joking! It's safer to use an local anaesthetic than to put her to sleep. It will be fine
- When I had my teeth pulled they did not put me to sleep either. They will most likely numb her quite heavily. She will never feel a thing. Generally they do not like to medicate young children. It's for her own safety
- Your daughter is 2 years old. They do not like to do general on a small child unless it's a last resort. General has to be in a hospital or a clinic that has that equipment like an oral surgeon. I would ask the dentist to give her a sedative. That way, they can give her a local anesthetic. If they will not do that; I would find another dentist. I am glad you are trusting you gut. No sedation is a perfect recipe for phobic child. hope that helps
- for one tooth. give me a break
- cause it's just an ordinary tooth, so that case they do not have to use the gas to fall asleep
- Sometimes it only pinches a little so its not nessacary. , I understand you are concerned, so if its bugging you tell the dentist to numb her
- they did not put me to sleep ethier whn i got 2 of my teeth pulled out instead the numbed it
- They do not do that. Dentists do not like to medicate younger children. They want them safe so they can jack more of your money Oh make sure you have tylenol handy and LOTS of gauze and pudding. That is basically all I could eat when I got mine pulled
- Chances are, they probably do not want to chance giving such a small body a big dose of medication just to extract one tooth. Besides, I just got a tooth pulled out today! The dentist numbed me with some banana - flavored Oragel, gave me an injection in my gum and in the roof of my mouth. After a little while, I did not feel anything and he extracted the problematic molar. However I am 26 and we're talking about a 2 year old here. I know that the whole thing is going to be a little tramatic for her but as long as you hold her hand and let her know that things are going to be ok, I think she will be fine. She's going to have to have softer food so this would be a good opportunity to reward her for being brave in the dentist's chair. Hope things work out well!
- A general anesthetic is far more risky than a local anesthetic. For the simple extraction of a single, the risk just is not warranted
